Bruce Edgar - Founder
bruce@qclaps.info
Bruce Edgar is a native of the Southwest, having grown up in Buckeye, a small town outside of Phoenix, Arizona, one of five siblings. Bruce was attracted to performing at an early age, but his strengths lay in the ordered fields of science and math. He received a degree in science education at Arizona State University just in time to volunteer for service during the Vietnam conflict. After one tour in the Marines he returned to the Southwest, this time settling in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bruce made the decision to pursue his first love, a career in theatre and the entertainment industry. He worked as an actor, a stagehand, follow-spot operator, electrician, and theatre facilities technician at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and in several casinos. Bruce is proud to have acted on every legitimate stage in Las Vegas at the time. He also worked on several feature and low budget films in various capacities.
After completing a degree in theatre arts at UNLV, he became Production Manager for the Performing Arts Center at the university, a position that utilized his skills in both the artistic and technical sides of a production. For five years Bruce coordinated in excess of 500 events per year in three theatres, three rental spaces, and a lawn area. Bruce worked with many of Las Vegas’ local music, dance, and theatre groups and countless touring orchestras, dance, and theatre productions.
Wanting to expand his horizons, Bruce moved to Dallas, Texas, to be Administrative Director of Dancers Unlimited Repertory Company, where he revolutionized the ticketing, marketing, and fundraising aspects of the organization. When the mountains of the Southwest again called to him, Bruce was pleased to bring his family to New Mexico. He likens Albuquerque to Las Vegas of the 1980’s, a small enough place where everyone can get to know everyone else, but large enough to have great music, theatre, dance, and galleries.
For four years he was the Principal Administrator and Ticketing Manager for Chamber Music Albuquerque, Bruce was responsible for several parts of this organization, managing the system that sells, dispenses and records all ticket sales. He added a second level of service by offering on line-advanced ticket sales to other performing arts organizations in the Albuquerque area. Bruce also managed all the aspects of the organization’s administration. He worked with the executive director, marketing consultant, and graphic designer, and, as if this wasn’t enough, he also oversaw day-of concert promotion and administration.
QCLAPS is Bruce’s latest endeavor. It utilizes all his skills as an artist, manager, coordinator and arm twister. The idea has been germinating and developing for several years, when he realized there was no one place that a person could go to find out what was happening in the local community arts scene. What started as a few announcements for one organization has evolved and grown to listings and information for over four-dozen artists, organizations, and venues. He hopes to use this newsletter and web site to serve the industry that has brought him so much joy – live and visual arts and entertainment. He hopes to develop a conduit that will allow local artists and arts organizations to connect with appreciative audiences.
